Working in a distinctly old school way, farming only by hand and eschewing the use of chemicals in both the vineyard and cellar, Commendatore Lino Maga is a legend of Italian wine. The wines of Maga are rough-hewn and magnanimous at the same time, speaking both of the earth and something divine.
Montebuono, like the classic Barbacarlo blend has some Croatina, Uva Rara and Ughetta, but there is also a little Barbera in the mix. The vineyards sit next to each other and while the vines here are also up to around 100 years old and planted over tufo, the site is a little less steep than Barbacarlo. This is a full expression of Montebuono, with generosity of fruit and a gentle power at its core.
